What is letter frequency used for?
Letter frequencies crack substitution ciphers (in English, E is usually the most common letter), guide word-game guesses like Wordle and hangman, and help writers spot overused initials or check lipograms.
Does it count uppercase and lowercase separately?
By default, no — "A" and "a" are counted together so the ranking reflects the letter itself. Turn on case sensitivity if you need them counted as separate characters.
Are numbers and punctuation counted?
No, this tool counts letters only. Spaces, digits and punctuation are ignored so the percentages describe the letters in your text.
